Adults 50+ Are Embracing Tech — and AI Is Next

A new AARP survey has some genuinely encouraging findings: adults 50+ are not just keeping up with technology, they are fully in the game.

Smartphone ownership among adults 50+ has climbed from 55% in 2016 to 90% in 2025. That kind of growth in under a decade tells a clear story. Today, older adults own modern technology at roughly the same rate as younger adults, and they are using it for everything from banking and fitness tracking to video chatting and online shopping.

The headline finding for our community? AI usage among adults 50+ has nearly doubled in a single year, rising from 18% in 2024 to 30% in 2025. Health-related applications are leading the way, with many people exploring AI tools for answering medical questions and getting nutritional guidance.

Two-thirds of adults 50+ agree that technology enriches life and makes aging easier. At the same time, the survey is honest about where friction remains. Privacy concerns, confusing design, and a lack of confidence with digital skills are still keeping some people on the sidelines. Three in five adults 50+ say that technology is not designed with their age in mind — a fair critique, and one the industry needs to hear.

The big takeaway: curiosity about AI is real and growing, but so is the need for better tools, clearer information, and spaces where people can learn without pressure. That is exactly what neoClarity is here for.
